Frederick Jackson Turner recently explored the American West on his own road trip from the cavernous abyss of the San Andreas Fault, and throughout the American West.  Here is a collection of his favorite photographs from that trip.

The frontier provided the crucial ingredients to make Anglo-american democracy soar--wilderness and distance from the east. #Beauty #fertilesoilfordemocracy #Americaisborn

The first people of the West faced the challenge of savage natives. The Frontier offered many hurdles to overcome.

The american character is born, only on the frontier. #strength #individual #robust

Here are some of Patty Limerick's photos from her recent road trip out west.

Giant Tin can heap found by limerick while driving out in the West. artist, David Emmett Adams and his new interpretation on western art and historical trash.

Also I have some images here from a visit to the Immigrant & Refugee Community Organization center in Southeast Portland, where I got to see first hand the growing definition of trans nationalism in the American west, and ways in which modern immigration demographics continue to shape the western region.

Then I took a road trip between Salt Lake City along the concrete arrows developed in the 1920’s to provide visual navigational aids for for the planes flying the mail route. These arrows are a great example of the ways in which white settlement in the west have shaped the rural landscape in ways not typically discussed among historians.

And lastly here is Limericks collection of real estate themed photographs taken throughout the West:
